Every year, the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) witnesses hundreds of accidents, making it a challenging route for drivers. The combination of busy traffic, sharp turns, unpredictable weather, and steep cliffs adds to the risk, especially after dark. Data from UC Berkeley’s SafeTREC Transportation Injury Mapping System shows that between 2015 and 2018, the PCH was the scene of numerous injuries and fatalities.

As per the California Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), fatal and injury accidents in Roseville increased by 51% from 454 in 2020 to 684 in 2021. The rising trends in fatalities and crashes suggest a higher risk of being involved in an accident.

Globally, road traffic accidents claim the lives of approximately 1.19 million people annually. 20 to 50 million individuals sustain non-lethal injuries due to these incidents, with a significant number resulting in disabilities.
